Pray not for tomorrow

You look up from your dizzy insomnia;
out of nowhere there He is,
sitting across from you
like a motionless emotionless Ben Kingsley;
staring at you
with cold dead eyes.
Unblinking. Unforgiving.
Your palms, hot. sweaty.
Clench your useless fists
into half-filled pale green water balloons;
that thought in the back of your mind…
like swimming in quicksand…
what was it again?
There’s only one way to kill an idea…

“Oblivion – what a blessing…for the mind to dwell a world away from pain.” – Sophocles, Oedipus Rex

Cadaverous clay

Warble warble quaver away,
trilly trilly yammer and quay;
velvety melody mewing a-sway,
ditty ditty cadaverous clay…
Frog-faced brier,
maladroit crier,
ventriloquist liar,
trunculated sire;
now I lay me down to sleep,
virgins, villains mocking-weep;
ozone-coppered clomping creep,
roll on down the rubbish-heap…

“All religions are not the same. All religions do not point to God. All religions do not say that all religions are the same. At the heart of every religion is an uncompromising commitment to a particular way of defining who God is or is not and accordingly, of defining life’s purpose.” – Ravi Zacharias, Jesus Among Other Gods: The Absolute Claims of the Christian Message

Occam’s razor

Moonbeams and cherry soda,
see the lies in stranger’s eyes;
sing we now the final coda,
kiss the sky goodbye…
Mary cries, “Don’t be long…”
Pilate sighs, “You don’t belong…”
I’m thirsty,
so damn thirsty;
It’s dark,
so damn dark;
oh, what I’d give for moonbeams,
moonbeams and cherry soda…

“Oh! I have a heart to be stabbed in or shot in, I have no doubt,” said Estella, “and of course if it ceased to beat I should cease to be. But you know what I mean. I have no softness there, no—sympathy—sentiment—nonsense.” – Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

Mercy’s descent

I remember those happy days,
those golden days when love was like the air we breathed.
Like an old paperback, faded, yellowed,
those memories have slowly begun to die.
I still see Mercy’s smile;
but now my sight grows dim…

Falling. Slowly. Achingly slowly.
Out of the comfort of darkness, a breathlessness.
Dawn? Dawn be damned.
Crisp, white sheets flapping on the veranda,
but there, there on the deathbed of morning
a farewell warning coming late.
Much, much too late…

Stare blankly, Mercy;
your hard eyes, finally harmless,
reflect merely a lack of longing,
merely a haunting smilelessness;
like a vineyard of withering grapes,
dusty, brown, yawning a final breath;
your ever-fading long-ago day gently bends to night…

We’re caught in a trap
I can’t walk out
Because I love you too much baby…

Elvis Presley – Suspicious Minds

Marked

It left me with questions I dare not ask,
a blustery, blistering storm;
truth is an obstinate candleflame in a hurricane,
a lie is but a whisper in the wind.

What should this sorry soul say?
This day shall be marked;
remembered forever,
for the languor of the Almighty.
